Intramuscular (IM) Ketamine Therapy
A cutting-edge treatment for individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and chronic pain.
What is IM Ketamine?
IM (Intramuscular) Ketamine is carefully injected into the muscle tissue, typically the arm. It was originally created as an anesthetic, but in recent years, medical researchers have observed rapid symptom relief for psychiatric & mental health disorders with proper management of the medication. While this treatment is not FDA-approved, it has been tested in 350+ clinical studies with results showing improvement in depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, chronic pain, and various substance addiction.
Benefits of IM Ketamine Therapy
If you're struggling with depression, anxiety, PTSD, or a mental health condition that hasn’t responded to traditional treatments, ketamine therapy may offer a breakthrough. Backed by clinical research and real-world results, here are the key ways ketamine can help:
-
Ketamine increases neuroplasticity—your brain’s ability to grow, adapt, and form new pathways. This makes it easier to break old patterns and create new ones. With greater flexibility, you can respond better to therapy, build healthier habits, and feel more in control of your emotions.
-
Research shows ketamine helps regrow and strengthen neural connections in parts of the brain that affect mood and memory. This helps improve emotional regulation and gives your brain the support it needs to heal from chronic stress, trauma, and depression.
-
Ketamine works differently than antidepressants—it targets glutamate, the brain’s main chemical for communication. It also increases BDNF, a protein that supports brain growth and resilience. This powerful combo helps your brain repair itself and bounce back from burnout or mental fatigue.
-
The dissociative effects of ketamine allow for a fresh, often eye-opening view of yourself and your experiences. Many patients describe feeling mentally “unstuck,” able to see new possibilities, and more hopeful about their future. This can jumpstart real change when combined with therapy.
-
One of the most promising benefits of ketamine is how quickly it works—sometimes within hours. While lasting change comes with ongoing care and support, ketamine can help you feel better fast and open the door to deeper healing.
Our Process
At Mind Anchor Psychiatry, every patient begins intramuscular (IM) ketamine treatment with a thorough psychiatric evaluation—ideally in person, so you can get comfortable with the treatment space and process.
During your consultation, a licensed psychiatric provider will review your mental health history, current symptoms, and medical background to determine if ketamine therapy is a safe and effective option for you. If you’re experiencing severe symptoms or have limited insurance coverage, ketamine may be recommended for its fast-acting relief compared to traditional treatments.
Before beginning, you’ll complete a consent form and any required screening forms to ensure safety and readiness for treatment.
Initial Phase (Month 1): Two sessions per week
Stabilization Phase (Month 2): One session per week
Maintenance Phase (Month 3+): Frequency based on your progress and provider recommendations
Clinical studies have shown that, over time, patients often experience extended periods of significant symptom relief—sometimes lasting weeks or even months.
Standard Treatment Protocol
Each session involves a higher-dose, in-clinic ketamine injection administered by a trained provider in a safe, controlled environment. The effects typically last 3 to 7 days during the early stages of treatment. For safety reasons, we do not prescribe take-home ketamine (like lozenges or nasal sprays).
In-Clinic Only, No Take-Home Doses
Session Duration and Aftercare
Ketamine sessions usually last 40-60 minutes. Afterward, you’ll be monitored by your provider until it’s safe for you to leave. Driving is not allowed post-treatment, so patients must arrange for a ride. If needed, we partner with Uber Health to help coordinate safe transportation to and from your sessions.
